What you need
- A FreeStyle Libre 2 or 3 sensor, working with the FreeStyle Libre app on your phone.
- An email address for your LibreLinkUp follower account. It can be the one you already use.
- About five minutes, and your phone online.
How LibreLinkUp works
LibreLinkUp is Abbott’s app for followers. When you share from your FreeStyle Libre app, each reading is uploaded to Abbott’s cloud, and anyone you invite can see it in LibreLinkUp. You can invite yourself.
Ando signs in to LibreLinkUp with that follower account and reads your glucose from there. It only reads: it never changes anything on your sensor or in your Libre app.
Step 1: invite yourself from your Libre app
- Open Connected Apps.
In your FreeStyle Libre app, open the menu and tap Connected Apps, then LibreLinkUp.
- Add a connection.
Tap Add Connection and enter your name and your own email address.
- Send the invitation.
Tap Add and send it. LibreLinkUp now lists the invitation as sent.
Abbott’s app is called LibreLink or Libre depending on your country and version, and some versions call the menu Share or Connections instead of Connected Apps. The idea is the same: find LibreLinkUp and invite your own email.
Step 2: accept the invitation in LibreLinkUp
- Install LibreLinkUp.
Download it from the App Store or Google Play and create an account with the email you invited.
- Accept the invitation.
Open the invitation in LibreLinkUp and accept it. If LibreLinkUp asks you to verify your email or accept its terms, do it now.
- Check your readings.
You should see your own glucose in LibreLinkUp. If you do, Ando will see it too.
Step 3: connect your Libre to Ando
- Choose FreeStyle Libre in Ando.
During sign-up, or later under your sensor settings.
- Sign in with your LibreLinkUp login.
The email and password of the follower account from step 2. In countries where LibreView is used to sign in, use that login.
- Pick your country.
Choose the country where your Libre account is registered, so Ando signs in on the right regional server.
- Wait a moment.
Ando fetches your recent readings. They show up within a few minutes, and from then on Ando keeps up on its own.
If it doesn’t connect
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| Signed in, but there are no connections yet | Your LibreLinkUp account works, but nobody shares a sensor with it. Send the invitation from your Libre app (step 1) and accept it in LibreLinkUp (step 2). |
| LibreLinkUp didn’t connect | Use the LibreLinkUp follower login, not only the patient login from your Libre app. Check the password in the LibreLinkUp app itself. |
| Country doesn’t match | Choose the country where your Libre account is registered, then connect again. |
| Too many connection attempts | LibreLinkUp limits how often apps can sign in. Wait a few minutes, then try again. |
| The CGM service is temporarily busy | Abbott’s service is having a moment. Try again in a few minutes. |
LibreLinkUp shows no recent data
If LibreLinkUp, and so Ando, stops getting new readings while your sensor works, the cause is almost always on the upload side:
- Your Libre app isn’t uploading. Open it and check it shows a current reading. Don’t force-quit it, and allow it to run in the background.
- Your phone is offline, in airplane mode or in a low-power mode that pauses background apps.
- Sharing was turned off in Connected Apps, or the invitation was removed.
- With a Libre 2, depending on your setup, readings may only reach LibreLinkUp after you scan the sensor.
- LibreLinkUp is waiting for you to accept new terms or verify your email. Open the app and check.
- Abbott’s service is slow to publish. Readings usually catch up once it recovers.
If your glucose stops arriving in Ando for a long stretch, the app shows a notice with these fixes. More on timing in how delayed is your CGM.
Questions people ask
What is LibreLinkUp?
LibreLinkUp is Abbott’s free app for followers. Your FreeStyle Libre app shares your readings with it through Abbott’s cloud, so family, friends or apps like Ando can see them.
Can I follow myself on LibreLinkUp?
Yes. Send the invitation from your Libre app to your own email address, then accept it in LibreLinkUp. Following yourself does not affect anyone else who follows you.
Which login does Ando need?
Your LibreLinkUp login: the follower account, not only the patient login you use in the Libre app. In countries where LibreView is used for sign-in, use that login.
Which FreeStyle Libre sensors work with Ando?
FreeStyle Libre 2 and FreeStyle Libre 3, through LibreLinkUp. If your readings show in LibreLinkUp, Ando can read them.
Why does Ando ask for my country?
Abbott runs LibreLinkUp from several regional servers. Your country tells Ando where to sign in. Choose the country where your Libre account is registered.
Does Ando replace my Libre app?
No. Your Libre app keeps reading your sensor and uploading your readings; Ando reads them from LibreLinkUp. Keep the Libre app installed, signed in and allowed to run in the background.
