What you need
- A Dexcom G7, G6 or ONE+ sensor, working with the Dexcom app on your phone.
- Your main Dexcom account login: the one paired with your sensor, not a Dexcom Follow account.
- About five minutes, and your phone online.
How Dexcom Share works
Share is a feature of the Dexcom app. When it’s on, the app uploads each reading from your sensor to Dexcom’s cloud so the people you invite can follow it in the Dexcom Follow app. Ando reads your glucose from that same cloud, signing in with your main Dexcom account. It only reads: it never changes anything on your sensor or in your Dexcom settings.
That’s why the setup has two parts: turn Share on in the Dexcom app, then sign in to Ando.
Step 1: turn on Share and invite yourself
- Open Share in the Dexcom app.
On the phone paired with your sensor, open the Dexcom app and tap Share, under Connections.
- Invite yourself as a follower.
Tap Invite Follower and enter your own email address. Any name works, “Me” is fine.
- Share readings and the trend graph.
Choose to share both sensor readings and trend graph data. Notification settings for the follower don’t matter for Ando.
- Send the invitation.
Review the details and send it. The Share screen should now show Share as on.
Step 2: check that Share works
This step is optional, but it’s the surest way to know your readings are leaving your phone. Install the Dexcom Follow app, create a follower login with the email you just invited, open the invitation email and accept it. If you see your own readings in Dexcom Follow, Ando will see them too.
Then Share is already on and you can skip straight to step 3. Adding yourself as a follower doesn’t change anything for the people who follow you today.
Step 3: connect Dexcom to Ando
- Choose Dexcom in Ando.
During sign-up, or later under your sensor settings.
- Sign in with your main Dexcom account.
Enter your Dexcom username, email or phone number, and your password. If your account uses a phone number, enter it with your country code.
- Pick your country.
Dexcom keeps accounts created in the United States on one server and all others on another. Choose the country where you created your Dexcom account.
- Wait a moment.
Ando fetches your recent readings. They show up within a few minutes, and from then on Ando keeps up on its own.
If it doesn’t connect
Most connection problems come down to the account, Share or the region. Here is what each message means.
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| Dexcom didn’t accept this login | Use your main Dexcom account, not Dexcom Follow. Check caps lock. Confirm your password on Dexcom’s account site: uam1.dexcom.com for US accounts, uam2.dexcom.com for international ones. |
| Account not found | Check the username, and that Share is on in the Dexcom app with at least one follower invited. |
| The region may not match your account | Choose the country where your Dexcom account was created: United States, or any other country for international accounts. |
| Too many failed login attempts | Dexcom limits sign-in attempts. Wait a few minutes before trying again. |
| The CGM service is temporarily busy | Dexcom’s service is having a moment. Try again in a few minutes. |
| Phone-number login fails | Enter the number with its country code, or sign in with the email or username on your Dexcom account. |
Dexcom Share or Follow shows no data
If Ando, or Dexcom Follow, is connected but your latest readings don’t arrive, the problem is almost always on the upload side, before Dexcom’s cloud:
- The Dexcom app isn’t uploading. Open it: it should show a current reading, and Share should show as on. Don’t force-quit it, and allow it to run in the background.
- Your phone is offline, in airplane mode or in a low-power mode that pauses background apps.
- Bluetooth is off, or the phone is too far from the sensor.
- The sensor is warming up or has reached the end of its session.
- Dexcom’s service is having trouble. It happens; readings usually catch up once it’s back.
If your glucose stops arriving in Ando for a long stretch, the app shows a notice with these fixes. Our article on CGM delay explains how fresh Share data usually is.
Questions people ask
Which Dexcom login does Ando need?
Your main Dexcom account: the one you use in the Dexcom app paired with your sensor. Not a Dexcom Follow account. You can sign in with your username, your email or, if your account uses one, your phone number.
Do I really need to invite a follower?
Yes. Ando reads your glucose through Dexcom Share, and Share has to be on with at least one follower invited. Inviting yourself is enough, and it does not affect anyone who already follows you.
Which Dexcom sensors work with Ando?
Dexcom G7, G6 and ONE+, as long as Share is available and turned on in your Dexcom app.
Is it safe to give Ando my Dexcom password?
Ando encrypts your sensor login with AES-256-GCM before storing it and only uses it to read your glucose. It never changes anything on your sensor or in your Dexcom account, and you can disconnect at any time, which deletes the stored login.
Why does Ando ask for my country?
Dexcom runs one Share server for accounts created in the United States and another for the rest of the world. Your country tells Ando which one to use. If the first one refuses the login, Ando tries the other once.
Does Ando replace the Dexcom app?
No. The Dexcom app keeps talking to your sensor and uploading your readings; Ando reads them from Dexcom Share. Keep the Dexcom app installed, signed in and allowed to run in the background.
